On Tuesday I opened my account for 2012, and I have to say it feels good to be back out there volunteering!
As part of ABInBev’s commitment to World Environment Day, I joined an army of other headquarters staffers to restore Astoria Park, Queens to a ‘summer ready’ state.
We cleaned up the mountains of trash along half a mile (or more) of shoreline; painted a mile of railings; mulched gardens and bare patches in the park’s lawn; and painted dozens of benches around the park. In doing the latter, I learned that the color of all the benches in NYC parks is a specific hue called ‘Central Park Green’. Who knew?
Anyway, it was great to dust of the volunteering cob-webs and get back into action. It feels good to have done something for my first event this year that will benefit thousands of people right away. I am hoping they took advantage of the good weather and enjoyed it this weekend!
So one down, eleven to go for me. And at the same time, we’re closing in on our 20 individuals or teams who are giving 12 ‘Sundays’ this year. If you’re not one of them, now’s the time to join! Come on… give 12 in ’12. It’ll be the best thing you do all year!
